Karen Morris

I’m a lesbian mother and a cultural anthropologist interested in family, gender, and sexuality. I teach courses such as Ethnography, the Anthropology of Childhood, and Traveling Cultures in the Visual & Critical Studies Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My partner, Christina, and I have been together for 22 years. We have two kids – Finn (13 years old) and Skye (11 years old). I grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and spent 10 years in the San Francisco Bay Area while I was in graduate school. I went to college in Niger, West Africa, and spent 15 years doing research in West Africa. More recently, I have been doing research in the Chicago area on LGBTQ+ care networks and living histories. I love baking, reading, being in nature, and hanging out with my family. I tie-dye almost anything. I use she/her pronouns. The best way to contact me is by email: kmorris@saic.edu
