Nic Weststrate

He/Him/His Age: born in 1983

Nic Weststrate is an Assistant Professor of Human Development and Learning in the Department of Educational Psychology and member of Center for Research on Health and Aging at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Nic's research program investigates positive aging in the LGBTQ+ community. He has been recently exploring the potential for intergenerational storytelling to bolster the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ elders and youth, while also sustaining the community’s rich culture and history.

Prior to settling in Chicago in 2019, Nic spent two years in Austria living his Sound of Music fantasy and, before that, he was studying in his Canadian homeland. He finds Chicago winters refreshing, eh! In the in-between spaces, Nic enjoys a good volleyball match, a glass of red wine, and an epic fantasy novel.
