Conscious Preservation

by Todd Williams

Aging sheds skin
Layers so thin
You change before you know it.
Youth with beauty
Pride and a duty
To live freely
In this world
A subconscious envy
My story shapes me
My story makes me
He, She, They, Them
Pronouns are who I Am
Will my story be remembered?
Spiritual ageism
Gendered history
The Aged wonder, will you miss me?
Stories shared
Lives compared
In our gathering place
A youth perspective
A conscious collective
Of these LGBT history shakers
At a communal table
Without a label
A collaboration
We embark on the next course.

It’s epic enough
Definitely tough
For some to understand

Don’t let them forget
And with no regret

The history we’re making today.
