The Threads We Carry

This exhibit, like a tapestry, weaves together the narrative of many cultural and historical points from our lives and histories as lgbtq+ people. We took from our experiences and narratives to create this personal quilt that commemorates the AIDS crisis, queer culture around music, and how those relate to ourselves. Our inspiration for the size of the blocks comes from 12 inch records, particularly lesbian music records we encountered at Gerber Hart Library and Archives, while the inspiration for the quilt format comes from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. We commemorate those we know who passed from AIDS, as well as the women who passed from AIDS within this quilt.
