What We Want

On January 29, 2024, Didi, Dwight, Philip, and Emma gathered for the first time.

As a group, we worked to get to know each other and create something together by expressing desires—what we want to make, what materials we want to use, what we want to see in the world, what we want to say.

What do I want you to know about me?

How have we come to know each other?

How have we come to know ourselves?

As people who identify as LGBTQ+, we took this project very personally. The one common thread? We all were interested in blending together words and images in a compelling, beautiful way. Through our studio days, we talked about first queer experiences, dancing in clubs, sharing secrets, gender expression and how that can change feelings about sexuality, finding community and our various relationships to art and the notion of LGBT history. Getting to know each other affected the art we wanted to make, as we each contributed different elements to the installation.

We hope exploring what we want helps you

find

explore

discover

express

what you want.
